Reciprocal Transfers
A reciprocal transfer agreement allows you to transfer funds from one pension plan for credit of pensionable service in another pension plan.
The Program currently has reciprocal agreements with the following pension plans:
- Canadian Union of Public Employees Pension Plan
- Civil Service Superannuation Board (Province of Manitoba)
- Municipal Employees Benefits Board of Manitoba
- The Pension Plan for Officers and Employees (other than Teachers) of the Winnipeg School Division No. 1
- Workers’ Compensation Board of Manitoba Retirement Plan
If you are joining the Program, you may be eligible for a reciprocal pension transfer into the Program if your previous employer participates in one of the above plans. An election under a reciprocal transfer agreement must be made within a specified time frame, as outlined in each agreement. It is not uncommon that service credit under the Program would be less than your credited service with your previous employer.
If you are leaving the Program and your new employer participates in one of the above plans, you may be eligible to transfer your service from the Program to your new pension plan. The value of your pension benefit will be transferred for crediting of service under the importing pension plan, as applicable.
